A short Intermezzo to Croatia 27.6. - 3.7.21

About our short trip to Croatia and how Stephi drove the big Toyo home all by herself.

Oh Croatia... we like you a lot! Our first trip with our Troopy took us to Croatia. Directly after the our new truck was handed over we packed our things and drove south. To pack an expedition vehicle is like moving into a new flat. You just don't have the comparable space to do it. Our fist Kilometers on the road gave as a huge smile. Comments like "Oh boy is this thing quiet" or "Drives like a regular car" left our lips. The challenging Kassler Berge, a series of small mountains, where a breeze with the now available 230 hp. With our old Landcruiser this part of the highway was always very nerv wrecking. Lots of traffic and slow trucks that force you drive at walking pace if you can't manage to overtake properly.

Our first night in the rooftop tent was in a parking lot next to our friends flat near Munich. What a feeling to finally sleep in your own truck again!

We drove many Kilometers trough Austria and Slovenia till we finally arrived in Croatia. The first night was warm with the smell of Pines and the nearby Mediterranean Sea. We slowly drove along the beautiful Adrian coastline to the "bat hotel" next to Zadar. The "bat hotel" is a hidden gem my boss told us about before we left Germany.

Our next stop was the island of Dugi Otok that is only reachable by a ferry ride. We checked into the local campsite and got the last site they offered. Luckily it was the most isolated one far away from the crowds and next to a lovely forrest. A day trip around the island marked the sudden end of our trip. Well many of you know the story... 7 h later I ended up in hospital. Due to an accident I broke my back!

Stephi and I saw us the last time in the ER. After that I went through numerous x-rays and CT scans before I was brought to the neuro surgeon department. Stephi had to sleep alone in the truck on an hotel parking lot next to the hospital. With a lot of angels help I barley scratched the necessity for a back surgery. Furthermore I was very lucky to now damage my spinal cord. I was flown home by our Insurance company while Stephi drove the Troopy all by herself back home.

Sebastian, Thea and Stephi auf Krk.

We actually planned to spent some time with our friends from Munich, Thea & Sebastian. Due to their help Stephi found a safe place and comfort on the Island of Krk on the second night after the incident.

We were relieved to be reunited in Hamburg a couple of days later.
